 - If you have a family history of heart disease or if you are a good candidate for developing heart disease I strongly recommend taking a look at this plan.  My father has worked in a factory for over 35 years and has good health insurance as well as short-term disability.  In September of 2004 he received double-bypass surgery and has missed over 2 months of work.  Fortunately most of the hospital and doctor bills were taken care of, and since he has short-term disability he is still bringing in an income, however it is not even close to what he would be making if he were still at work.  Obviously he has had to make several sacrifices in his style of living and the bill collectors are calling constantly since he has fallen behind on some of his bills.  Not to mention the non-medical bills that he has endured since the surgery such as traveling back and forth to the hospital which is about 100 miles away, expense in buying new low-sodium, low-fat food which is more expensive than his old grocery list, as well as deductibles, co-pays, and co-insurances.  Had he had this policy he would have received a $5,000 first-occurrence benefit right away, as well as $300 per day that he was hospitalized which was 7 days.  On top of that he would have received $100 each day he would have received Physician visits, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, rehabilitation therapy, & dietary therapy/consultation.  He would have also received a 50 cent per mile transportation benefit since the hospital was over 100 miles away, as well as a $60 lodging benefit for me to stay in a hotel/motel while he was receiving treatment.  This plan would have only cost $31.50 per month for someone in his age group (46-55) in Iowa.  And since these benefits would have been paid directly to him above and beyond all of his other insurance to use as he needed, he could have maintained his style of living and not had to worry about the bills falling behind.  Unfortunately we kept putting off getting him on it, after all, nobody thought he would have any trouble this soon.
